Compassion has been forced to close our program in India after nearly 50 years. Join us in praying for the children, families and churches who have lost our support.
India has the highest number of child brides in the world, with an estimated 47 percent of Indian girls married before their 18th birthdays. Girls are considered an economic burden, which marriage can solve, and parents feel pressure from their families and communities to marry their girls young.
Ask God to protect young, innocent girls from marriage by placing people in their lives who will speak out against the practice.
Pray that parents will place an emphasis on education, not marriage, for their young daughters.
Pray for the safety of girls who stand up against cultural norms and the wishes of their families.
