Your twenties are full of change and opportunity. After finishing college, I struggled to decide what to do next, but I knew I wanted to gain professional experience while making an impact. As I was discerning what my next step should be, I found Compassion International’s GoRep program — a journey uniquely designed for young adults 21 and over.

My name is Erin, and maybe you or someone you love is in the same position I was in a year ago when I discovered the GoRep program. I have felt so humbled to be a part of Compassion’s mission as a GoRep. I have had the opportunity to make a global impact, learn valuable career-starting skills and travel throughout the continental US — all while sharing my passion of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name. At events that I’ve run in the past five months, I’d estimate that about 900 children’s lives have been changed through sponsorship!

So, what exactly is a GoRep? I often describe it as getting to be a domestic missionary for a global cause, making a worldwide impact and inviting others to do the same. The rep team is a group of young adults who travel to Compassion events across the country for six-month stints, teaching others about poverty and how they can be part of changing children’s lives around the world. In doing this, you get to make connections throughout the church and non-profit worlds as you gain professional experience.

Meeting incredible church partners and volunteers was my favorite part about being a GoRep. Walking alongside families as they decide to sponsor a child in poverty is an incredibly unique experience; I adored saying to children, “You have a new brother/sister now! You get to tell them all about how much Jesus loves them!” The most impactful moments for me came from watching the people of God learn about the issue of poverty and answer the call to care for those in need as Jesus would. I met volunteers who sponsored as many as 26 children, watched church members offer to sponsor the rest of the children we had left at events and saw countless others enter into the great privilege of answering God’s call to care for the vulnerable.

The Lord is working through his people to care for his children, and it was an honor to be part of that with the GoRep program. That came alongside traveling the country and gaining professional experience — there is truly nothing better!
