Q: Tell us about your childhood. Why do you think you were chosen to be a part of the Compassion center?

A: My dad started working as a musician for different local orchestras, and that led him to have a bohemian lifestyle. Many times, he came home after several days drunk and with barely any money. When he was home, he argued and fought with my mom. Living in that situation really affected me.

When I was 3, my granny talked my parents into registering me at the Compassion center. Later, my younger sister was also registered. I really believe I was chosen to be part of the center because it was part of God’s purpose. He had something in store for me.

Q: What was it like at the Compassion center? Were there any people there who were extra special to you?

A: The days I went to the center were the happiest for me. I remember my tutor was Sister Felicita. She always came to class with a smile on her face and taught us something new in a whole different way. She would teach us singing or playing. She also taught us parables or Bible stories, and I really loved it. I wanted to be like her and teach others.

Q: How did your time at the center affect your home and your family?

A: I remember that when my lessons at the center were over, I ran home. As soon as I got there, I started explaining to my mom everything I had learned that day. Little by little, I preached to my family about Christ’s love and how He could help us with our problems.

I was 12 when my mom decided to get baptized. We got baptized together. It was an awesome experience, a very beautiful moment. And then, a year later, my father started to come to church with us too!

Q: That’s so amazing! Can you tell us more about your journey into education and teaching?

A: When I was 12, I started teaching in Sunday school. I loved teaching little children how to sing, sharing with them the lessons and explaining to them about the Bible. And that really planted in me a love for children and helping them to grow and develop.

But it was a hard journey. I struggled to get into university and was rejected several times. But my sponsor encouraged me to keep going and to not surrender. The staff at the center, including Felicita, helped me find scholarships and opportunities.

Q: Why do you think God has led you to teaching?

A: You become a teacher because you are passionate about it. It is often an underestimated profession. But for us, who spend time with the children every day, we can realize the great impact and influence we have over them.

I have felt guided by God in every aspect of my life, including my job of teaching. I have always understood that I am a daughter of God and I have a clear purpose in this world. God, in His perfect love, has plans for my life, plans greater than I could ever imagine. And that is why I am here, in this place, teaching and caring for the children God has put in my life.

Q: What are your hopes for the future?

A: My plans for the future are to continue studying and become a principal with God’s help, so I can support my younger sister so she can study whatever she wants. I want to help my family financially and give back what my parents, my sponsors and Compassion did for me, for their hard work and trust in me. I want to continue my service in my church through worship and teaching.

I will continue searching for God first, and He will give me the desires of my heart.
