At just 18 years old, Zertihun didn’t plan to have a baby. She was planning to go to college. But soon after she learned she was pregnant, the nausea and fatigue took over, and she was forced to drop out of school. Her life was drastically changing before her eyes.
But she hasn’t been walking this unexpected journey alone. Zertihun’s boyfriend joyfully embraced his new role as father, and her mother has been her constant support system, acting as her steadfast anchor in times of uncertainty.
Though she had the blessing of their presence, the whole family faced a devastating challenge: Zertihun and her mother relied completely on her single mother’s income. It was barely enough to support the two of them. It was not enough to support a new baby.
Their lack terrified the family. For Zertihun, the idea of becoming a single mother with no income was so daunting that it eclipsed the joy of welcoming a new life.
But then, Jesus brought hope. Zertihun was able to enroll at the Compassion Nurturers center at her local church. The Nurturers staff embraced Zertihun, offering not just relief from her fear but a profound sense of dignity. Now, her prenatal care and the care of her unborn baby are in safe, loving hands.
