Each sponsored child spends an average of 4,000 hours in safe, nurturing programs that provide the following benefits:

• Care for immediate physical needs (food, supplements, etc.).
• Educational opportunities and tutoring.
• Medical care and hygiene training to prevent, as well as treat, illness.
• Opportunities to participate in recreational activities and discover passions.
• Life skills and vocational training programs.
• Protection from violence and exploitation.
• An opportunity to hear the Gospel, know Christ and be discipled.
• Time with safe adults who can recognize and meet unique, individual needs.

There is no age threshold to be a sponsor — anyone is welcome! Minors do need a parent’s permission. When a minor signs up to sponsor, we contact their parents for confirmation.

No, you do not need to write letters to be a sponsor. However, we do encourage you to do so as your letters are a great encouragement to your sponsored child and allow you to build a relationship with him/her. We have many resources and letter writing ideas to make encouraging your child easy. If you do choose to sponsor, even sending one letter can make a huge impact!

At Compassion, we do all our work in Jesus’ name and through thousands of local church partners who personally know and care for children in their communities. We know we’re not qualified (nor is it right) to show up in impoverished communities as saviors assuming we have all the right solutions. So, we don’t. We simply resource and empower the local church that’s already there to serve their communities and be the hands and feet of Christ. We believe that local pastors and church staff are the best equipped to identify challenges and meet needs in sustainable, healthy, culturally relevant ways. They are able to address major aspects of a child's well-being to put them on a path to being released from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty. This model also gives children in our programs consistent role models and mentors who are leaders in their communities.

We work exclusively through local church partners; those partners receive your financial support and use it to care for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each child. Local staff is personally acquainted with each sponsored child, enabling them to use funds effectively for each child’s unique needs and situation.

We are audited each year by an independent accounting firm (we publish the independent auditor report in its entirety on our Financial Integrity page), and we conduct internal audits to ensure that every dollar is making an impact in the life of a child.

Our Child Development Program is conducted up through the age of 18 to 22 (the precise age varies by country). We hope you’ll be able to sponsor your child until he or she completes the program! But we also recognize that circumstances change, and so we completely understand if you need to discontinue payments for a short season or cancel your sponsorship altogether. Please understand that your child's circumstances could change as well. For example, sometimes families move beyond the reach of our program, and children no longer have the opportunity to participate. If any circumstance like this affects your child, we’ll tell you as quickly as possible and offer you the opportunity to sponsor another child who is able to benefit from our program.

No, you will be the only sponsor supporting your child — they will know you by name! This gives you a unique opportunity to connect with and encourage them.

Most sponsors like to be billed monthly, but you can also choose to be billed quarterly or annually. You can choose your billing frequency when you start sponsoring, and you can always call us at 800-336-7676 to change the frequency at any time.
