Kanti holds her daughter, Mala

Kanti accepted malnutrition as a way of life. That is, until her baby girl, Mala, was born. Because Kanti was malnourished, Mala was born underweight. Then, unable to produce enough breast milk to keep Mala sufficiently fed, Kanti says, “All I could do was give her water.” In the middle of this crisis, Kanti learned about the Survival program at a local church. Now, as a program member, Kanti receives the nutritional assistance and childcare training needed to keep her precious Mala on track toward healthy development.
