The small Indonesian island of Rote, with sparkling beaches and colorful sunsets, is picturesque. But for most families here, life is anything but a tropical paradise. The dark clouds of poverty make survival a daily struggle. But because they are registered in a local church’s Compassion center, children like 9-year-old Jani (black T-shirt) and her friends run toward tomorrow with optimism and hope, confident that the future holds nothing but blue skies!
