What is Poverty?

After you watch the video, here are some ideas to keep exploring the topic of poverty as a family:

  • In the video, we learned that the opposite of poverty is not being rich – it’s having enough of what you need. Does that definition surprise you?
  • Talk about what it might be like if your home didn't have running water.
  • What would it be like to live in a home that didn’t keep out bad weather?
  • Talk about a time when you felt hopeless. What brought hope back into your circumstances?
  • Discuss what it might be like for the child you sponsor to now be part of the Compassion program. What hopes does your family have for his or her future (like attending school so he can get a good job when he grows up, or that she will find Christian friends in the program to lead her toward Jesus)?
