Yong Soon Kim

Dr. Yong Soon Kim of Houston was given back to our Lord on Christmas Day at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family.

Yong was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1934 to the late Kyung Yeop Ahn and Eib-Bun Chung. She was introduced to her late husband, Rev. Young Whan Kim through a mutual friend and their romance budded through written correspondence across the Pacific Ocean, while he attended seminary in the United States. She received her medical degree from Sudoh Women’s Medical College, immigrated to the United States in 1964. She was a practicing anesthesiologist in Philadelphia, until she retired at age 52 to pursue her true passion, financial investing, which she used to help family and friends. She and her husband moved to Houston in 2013 to be closer to her family.

Dr. Kim is survived by her daughter, Sheila Kim Heinle, son-in-law, Jeffrey S. Heinle, and her granddaughters, Samantha Heinle, Alexandra Heinle and husband, Davis Metzger.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dr. Kim’s funeral service at half past ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 2nd of January 2026 at the Kirk and Nice Funeral Home, 80 Stenton Ave, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. Dr. Kim will be laid to rest by her husband’s side at George Washington Memorial Park following the service. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Compassion International.
