How We Help Mothers

From pregnancy to birth, mothers are supported to ensure that babies are born healthy through Compassion Survival. More than 64,598 moms and babies have been helped to date! But we don’t stop at birth. In addition to supporting moms and babies with nutrition, medical and spiritual support, moms can learn vocational skills and generate incomes that support their families.

In many situations, a mother is the only earner in the household. In other situations, she must supplement her family’s income when there is just not enough to put food on the table. Compassion provides workshops for moms to learn new skills that will benefit them in their communities.

Each Compassion Survival Center is staffed with warm, caring, knowledgeable individuals that serve mothers well, resulting in healthy and thriving children.

Maria’s husband works long days but brings home a meager income as a farm laborer. With new babies to care for, Maria realized that she could help support her young family. She learned new skills in the Sewing Workshop that taught her to make items that can be sold in their communities. She learned to make clothing and bags. With their passion to create and earn an income, Maria and other moms began making unique water bottle holders. Their bags caught the eye of the staff at Compassion. Now they get orders to make 80 bags a month!

“I’m happy to be part of the bottle holder workshop because I’m able to help my husband sometimes he helps me too after his work day. Together, we earn around $40 monthly income. The best part of this workshop is that we can make the bottle holders at home so we can be close to our 2-year-old daughter Genesis,” said Maria.

Compassion's Child Survival is a powerful way to help mothers and their babies escape the cycle of poverty. Your support will help mothers to give their babies the best possible life, despite the difficulties of living in poverty. The odds are survival are already stacked against babies born in poverty, and Child Survival offers an opportunity to change this reality. Your prayers and financial support are invaluable.

Child Survival works through the local church to help mothers learn to care for their babies. It teaches mothers about breastfeeding, offers nutritional counseling, food supplements and vitamins, immunizations and health care.
