As of November 2, 2023, Tropical Storm Pilar has caused heavy rain and strong winds on the western coast of Nicaragua. To date, 40 participants have been impacted. The Child Development Center (CDC) staff members have already started visiting the homes of affected families. The Compassion Nicaragua National Office is actively monitoring the situation as it unfolds. Please rest assured that we will notify you as soon as possible if your child is affected in any way.
Please pray for the safety of all participants, their family members and CDC staff members.
Disaster Update #1: November 22, 2023
As of November 22, 2023, Tropical Storm Pilar has been moving away from Nicaragua. To date, 47 participants have been impacted. The National Office of Nicaragua provided participants and their families with food kits that include rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, milk, cookies, oatmeal, cornflakes, spaghetti, juice, coffee, tuna, tooth paste and toilet paper and also provided relief shelter kits. The National Office of Nicaragua will continue to actively monitor and provide for the needs of participants and their families.
Please continue to pray for the participants and their families who have been impacted by this storm as they continue to recover.
Disaster Update #2: December 7, 2023
As of December 7, 2023, Tropical Storm Pilar has moved away from Nicaragua. To date, 50 participants have been impacted. The National Office of Nicaragua worked with Child Development Centers (CDCs) to provide participants and their families with food kits and relief shelter kits. The National Office of Nicaragua continues to actively monitor the situation.
Please continue to pray for full recovery and health over the participants and their families who have been impacted by this storm.
Disaster Final Report: December 13, 2023
As of December 13, 2023, all affected participants have recovered from Tropical Storm Pilar in Nicaragua. To date, 50 participants have been impacted. The National Office of Nicaragua and Child Development Centers (CDCs) provided impacted participants and their families a 1) food kit consisting of rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, soup, milk, juice, oatmeal, spaghetti, coffee, matches, and salt, 2) a relief shelter kit consisting of a sponge pad, black plastic, large towels, blankets and 3) a hygiene kit consisting of bleach, toilet paper, alcohol, face mask, mosquito nets and a plastic bucket. All participants are in good health and have returned to normal activities.
