In October 2023, Tropical Storm Pilar hit the western area of El Salvador. The storms have caused flooding and damage to many communities. More rain is expected in the coming days. The Child Development Center (CDC) staff members have already started visiting the homes of affected families. The Compassion El Salvador National Office is monitoring the situation closely as it unfolds. Please rest assured that we will notify you as soon as possible if your child is affected in any way.
Please pray for the safety of all participants, their families and CDC staff members in El Salvador.
Disaster Update #1: November 3, 2023
As of November 3, 2023, the worst of the storm has passed. To date, 338 participants have been impacted. There is still flooding in the communities. The Child Development Centers (CDCs) have utilized Disaster Relief Funds to provide participants with items such as food kits and hygiene kits. They have also assisted families in finding safe shelter. The Compassion El Salvador National Office continues to monitor the situation closely.

Disaster Final Alert: December 11, 2023
As of December 11, 2023, participants and their families have recovered from the Tropical Storm Pilar in El Salvador. To date, 343 participants have been impacted. The Compassion El Salvador National Office and Child Development Centers (CDCs) provided food baskets, hygiene kits, personal items, tarps and spiritual support for participants and families impacted by the storm. Disaster Relief Funds were used to repair the homes of participants and their families. Participants and their families have resumed daily activities.
