On August 23, 2023, Tropical Storm Franklin made landfall in The Dominican Republic. The storm damaged many homes and caused flooding, landslides and power outages. It also contaminated water sources. To date, four participants have been impacted by the storm. The Compassion Dominican Republic National Office is monitoring the situation closely and is planning to utilize Disaster Relief Funds to provide assistance to the affected families. Please rest assured that we will notify you as soon as possible if your child is affected in any way.

Please pray for the families who have been impacted by the storm.

Disaster Update #1: August 29, 2023

As of August 28, 2023, the strong rain and winds have mostly subsided. Some families now have access to clean drinking water, while some still experience intermittent power outages. To date, 95 participants and two Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been impacted. CDC staff members have visited the homes of the affected families and are arranging funds to further assist with relief items.

Please continue to pray for the families in the Dominican Republic as they recover from the effects of the tropical storm.

Disaster Final Report: September 11, 2023

As of September 11, 2023, the after-effects of Tropical Storm Franklin have subsided. In total, 97 participants and two Child Development Centers (CDCs) were impacted. The CDCs were able to utilize Disaster Relief Funds to provide affected families with items such as food, mattresses, household appliances and repairs. Families have returned to their homes and have resumed daily activities.
