On December 25, 2022, a monsoon brought heavy rains causing flooding and landslides in the cities of Oroquieta, Ozamis, Jimenez and Gingoog. Many homes were partially or completely destroyed by the extreme weather. To date, 12 Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 29 Participants have been impacted by the flooding. Thankfully, all participants and their families are safe and healthy. The CDC has been working with local government to provide relief to affected families and help them rebuild their homes. The Compassion Philippines National Office is providing support to the affected families and CDCs and continues to monitor the situation. 

Please pray for the children and their families as they recover from the flooding.

Disaster Update #1: May 15, 2023

As of May 15, families are still recovering from the after-effects of the monsoon. Many damaged or destroyed homes have been patched using tarps. To date, 12 Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 29 Participants have been impacted by the floods. CDCs have begun assisting families in rebuilding or repairing their homes. The Compassion Philippines National Office continues to monitor the situation closely.

Please continue to pray for families as they begin repairs on their homes.

Disaster Update #2: December 7, 2023

As of December 7, 2023, families continue to recover from the affects of the monsoon. To date, 492 participants and 12 Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been impacted. Thankfully, all participants are healthy. CDCs recently conducted a Youth Disaster Resilience Training for youth who are frequently impacted by disasters. The focus was to educate them and equip them with skills to properly respond and ensure safety on the on-set of disaster. Most of the homes that were reported to be partially or totally damaged have not been rebuilt due to regulations and restrictions. Some damaged homes have been rebuilt while others are under construction or awaiting approval. The Compassion Philippines National Office continues to monitor the situation closely.

Please pray for the safety and provision over the communities that are recovering and rebuilding their homes and structures. Please pray for continued health and protection over the participants, families and CDCs.
