Update #3: March 7, 2022

Flooding has ceased in the Oruro area. To date, 53 participants and their families have been affected. Impacted families have returned to their homes. The Child Development Centers (CDC) continue to provide families with basic relief items and have brought in an engineer to assist families repair and rebuild their homes. The Compassion Bolivia National Office will continue to report updates as they become available.

Update #2: February 9, 2022

To date, 53 participants and their families have been impacted by the flooding in the Oruro area. All the affected families have returned to their homes. The Child Development Centers (CDC) are providing families with food, clothes, blankets, and school supplies. The CDC is also working with the local government and engineers to prevent future flooding issues. The Compassion Bolivia National Office will continue to monitor the situation and report updates as they become available.

Update #1: February 4, 2022

The Child Development Centers (CDC) report that so far, 53 participants and their families were impacted by the flooding. Affected families have returned home, but there is still water inside their homes. The CDCs have supplied health kits and food baskets to the affected families. Church leaders, families and neighbors are working together on a solution to divert water from houses where rain continues to cause flooding.

Disaster Alert: February 2, 2022

Beginning Wednesday, January 26, heavy rain fell in the Oruro area, flooding the Vinto river. Many houses in the area were flooded or destroyed. The Child Development Center (CDC) is providing shelter for several evacuated families and providing clothes, coats and preparing food for the families. Assessment of impact is still in progress, and specific participant details are not yet available.
