Final Report: September 22, 2022

A total of 527 participants and eight Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been affected by the heavy rains in Pernambuco. The rainy season has ended, and the participants and their families were able to return to their homes. All affected families have received support through the Disaster Relief Fund for food, clothing, household items, hygiene kits and other needs. Compassion is working with the Child Development Centers (CDCs) to mitigate the risk of natural disasters in the future.

Update #1: May 31, 2022

The flooding in Pernambuco, Brazil has worsened. During the weekend, several rivers overflowed causing massive flooding in several cities. To date, it has been reported that 497 participants have been affected as well as eight Child Development Centers (CDCs). The CDCs are continuing to provide impacted families with support and basic relief items. The local government is providing shelter to families at schools and churches. The Compassion Brazil National Office will monitor the situation and report updates as they become available.

Disaster Alert: May 27, 2022

The flooding situation has resolved in Recife and João Pessoas. In total, 163 beneficiaries and one Child Development Center (CDC) were reported as affected. All beneficiaries and their families are doing well and are safely back in their homes. The CDCs were able to provide food, water, hygiene kits, and emotional support to affected beneficiaries and their families. Local government agencies also provided support to impacted families and initiated preventive measures for future.
