Teaching Respect - One Date at a Time

Teaching respect to our children is one of our highest callings. It is also one of the most challenging at times!

As fathers, how do we go about teaching respect to our children? First, we need to model it. Our children watch our actions and notice our attitudes. Start by showing respect to your wife, your kids, your friends and those in authority over you. Then explain to your children why respect is important and what your expectation are for them. When they disrespect others, be firm but respectful in your discipline.

Teaching respect is essential to raising kids to be responsible adults.

One way to teach your children respect is to enter their world and enjoy time together. It is beneficial to teach respect one-on-one, utilizing daddy-daughter or daddy-son outings. These events don't have to be elaborate. Stop for ice cream, shoot hoops at the park, draw with chalk on the sidewalk. The key it to spend one-on-one time with them, talking about things that matter to them.
