Spread Kindness

Teaching kids to spread kindness often creates a ripple effect far beyond what you anticipate. Just like in the video, one act of kindness causes the recipient to spread kindness of their own.

Today, create a kindness train in your home. Start with one act of kindness and then encourage the recipient to spread kindness to another person. Keep the kindness train going as long as possible. This teaches children how far one act of kindness can spread. It also shares the biblical principle about giving versus receiving.

In Acts 20:35, Paul teaches us an important lesson. He says, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

This important lesson for children can be taught through the kindness train activity. They will soon realize how fun spreading kindness can be!

Spread Kindness

When one man gave $50 and some instructions to two girls, something amazing happened! Let’s watch.

How far can the ripple effect of one act of kindness go? This chain reaction kept going and going. This generous man started the “butterfly effect” for kids at a local school and he has watched it ripple around the world.

How do we teach kids to think beyond themselves and see the needs in other people? One way is by spending time around people who are less fortunate. Help out at a low-income school, volunteer at a homeless shelter, donate clothes to a mission, or go on a family missions trip to a developing country.

Another way to spread kindness is to sponsor a child through Compassion International as a family. Encourage your children to write letters to your sponsored child and pray for him or her regularly. When children correspond with a child who lives in a developing country, they learn firsthand what challenges children around the world face. As a result, children learn to spread kindness in their sphere of influence as well.
