Easter Parade

Have you ever seen a big parade? Maybe your favorite team won the championship and hundreds of thousands of people gathered to welcome the team home. There may have been confetti falling from the sky and everyone cheering. You may have even seen the athletes take selfies with people in the crowd and hoist their big trophy into the air. Or maybe your town has an Easter parade!

On Palm Sunday, Jesus led a parade that looked very different. He rode into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey and the crowds greeted Him. They cheered and put down clothes so the donkey could walk on them. They waved palm branches and laid them down before Him as well. This was their way of welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem.

The people thought Jesus had come to be their King! They wanted Him to save them from the Romans who were oppressing them. There was one big problem though. They didn’t know that Jesus’ kingdom is in heaven, not on earth. They wanted Him to fight with force, but Jesus came in love to save people for eternity. He came to bring eternal peace.

The people didn’t like that idea and they turned against Jesus. In just a few days, many of these people will be yelling for Jesus to be killed.

If Jesus has ridden into your life and is your King, you can spread His message of love and peace.
