Vice President of the Asia Region
Silas Balraj

"It is my greatest joy to facilitate the relationship between a sponsor who is called to serve by the Holy Spirit and the sponsored child who is in dire need of help and hope. Through this relationship, Compassion is able to move more people toward joining God's agenda."

As Compassion's Vice President of the Asia Region, Silas is grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Asia's most vulnerable children (through the local churches), including his native country where he grew up as a child of Christian missionary parents.

Silas spent a decade serving in human resources, operations, and organizational design and development for information technology (IT) companies in India. Yet, in his heart, he knew the Lord was preparing him for a larger role in the world of missions.

In 2003, Silas joined Compassion International as country director in India, where he oversaw operations in a field office that managed 320 Compassion projects/child development centers. In 2010, he was appointed as learning and support director to help equip Compassion's South Asia field staff with key knowledge and skills. In January 2012, Silas was invited to provide leadership to Global Program's Management Support team at Compassion's headquarters in Colorado. He assumed his current role in August 2014. During his tenure at Compassion, Silas has helped guide and improve field operations throughout the organization's greatest period of growth.

Silas also served as a spokesman, advisor and board member for many Christian organizations (in the U.S. and abroad) which focus on global and indigenous missions, child and youth development, education, member care, as well as leadership and business for missions.

Silas continues to be humbled by the role he plays at Compassion which helps build up the local church globally and ultimately the kingdom of God.

Silas and his wife Gracia married in 1999, and are blessed with three daughters.
