Ryan Russell

Ryan Russell came to Compassion in July 2023 to lead the Compassion of Tomorrow team. Before joining Compassion, Ryan was the Senior Vice President of Design and User Experience (UX) at Hinge Health, the world’s most patient-centered Digital Musculoskeletal Clinic. During his time there, he oversaw the creation and scaling of video exercise therapy, the launch of Enso v2 pain relief device, and the rebrand for Hinge Health.

Ryan spent nine years at Amazon, where he was the Director of Design & UX for Amazon Glow. He built and led a multi-disciplinary team responsible for all aspects of the design and UX, delivering on the unique new-to-world vision of creating an interactive play space where children and remote loved ones can play together regardless of distance. This was Amazon’s first-ever product designed specifically for children from the ground up. Prior to Glow, he was responsible for the UX and branding of many v1 products across Amazon Retail, post-checkout Retail Experience, Global Fulfillment UX, Global Customer Service UX, and Amazon’s transportation vehicle fleet design language. He grew the team from two people to over 135 across 5 studios in the U.S.

Before his time at Amazon, he created and led McAfee’s Design Studio, launched Cohdoo Highlight, an award-winning audio recording app, and designed novel consumer computing experiences at Intel, including one for children and families in China.

Ryan lives in Seattle, WA with his wife, Tanya, his son, Cohen, and his daughter, Norah. He loves sports and the outdoors and has collected favorite teams along the West Coast, having lived in California, Oregon and Washington over the years. He has been a distance runner ever since he was a little kid and he also enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and most outdoor activities.
