Welcome to Brazil: A Land of Rainforests, Sunny Beaches & Vibrant Color
Brazil is a beautiful country in eastern South America. If you love nothing more than lying on a warm beach, Brazil is just the spot for you. The country has over 4,000 miles of coastline and more than 2,000 beaches to choose from!
Beyond the coastline lies the Amazon rainforest. In fact, 60% of the Amazon is found in Brazil. Here, you’ll find a vast array of animal species, like jaguars, sloths and even pink river dolphins.
Brazil is a land of color, boasting lively festivals like Carnival, an annual celebration featuring big parades and music complete with bold costumes. While visiting, you’ll more than likely see Brazilians enjoying the samba, a dance birthed in Brazil.
While Brazil is known for its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes, it’s also home to many children living in poverty, as you’ll learn in this video.
What Does Poverty Look Like in Brazil?
Recent data shows that about 3% of Brazilians live in extreme poverty. This means that over 6 million people must survive on less than $3.00 a day, far from enough for basic needs. Children living in such poverty go without necessities like safe water, nutritious meals and even medical care.
Because of poverty in Brazil, children face many difficult challenges, like exploitation and human trafficking. You’ll learn more about these challenges in this video.
Compassion’s Impact in Brazil
Compassion International has served children living in poverty throughout Brazil since 1987. Currently, through Compassion’s partnership with more than 200 local churches, over 60,000 children are receiving the care they need to thrive.
In this video, you’ll explore how Compassion is providing in Jesus’ name the love, care and protection children living in poverty need as they grow.
