Institutional Partners

In addition to a completed UK Aid Award (from the FCDO), Compassion has implemented grants in partnership with high-capacity donors, corporations, foundations and strategic alliance partners.

Over the last 10 years, Compassion has diligently grown and diversified its corporate and foundation support. Significant contributions have been secured both in the forms of annual funding as well as multiyear, comprehensive support to meet ongoing programmatic needs.

Additionally, contributions support pilot projects, evaluation, research, collaborative efforts and internships. Examples include funding from:

• Stewardship Foundation.
• M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.
• NOW Foods.
• The Flame Broiler.
• KeHE Distributors.

Compassion has written several academic articles published on the topic. These articles highlight how Compassion’s work addresses methodological challenges and ensures rigor of understanding of youth development, as well as the ways faith-based programs specifically may be linked to child and youth development.

Findings were also presented at USAID’s Evidence Summit for Religious Engagement and documented as part of PYD work for USAID’s YouthPower2 initiative.

The Global Executive Team oversees the development and effectiveness of the worldwide work of Compassion. It is responsible for strategy development, planning, resource allocation, coordination and change management.

Each of Compassion’s national offices is locally registered and led by local executives referred to as a National Leadership Team. Each National Leadership Team is responsible for overseeing and implementing Compassion’s programmatic and partnership work in their respective countries.

National office registrations are determined by local regulations. Most often locally incorporated, or a registered branch, national offices also have additional licenses and memoranda of understanding with one or multiple local government agencies.

In accordance with Compassion’s community-based development approach, a network of local churches (called local church partners) lead and implement all of Compassion’s programs. A local church partner is selected for partnership based on factors such as:

• Presence in areas of strategic priority.
• Organizational maturity.
• Strength and duration of relationships with the local community.
• Capacity to implement program standards, child safeguarding standards and financial accountability measures.

Compassion’s Global Partner Alliance is a covenant charter composed of 12 members serving supporters in 31 countries. Covenant partners include:

• Australia.
• Canada.
• France.
• Germany.
• Italy/Spain.
• South Korea.
• The Netherlands.
• New Zealand.
• Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden).
• Switzerland.
• The United Kingdom/Ireland.
• United States.

These partners serve supporters in several additional countries with the unified purpose of providing holistic child development and living out the teachings of Jesus to love and serve the most vulnerable.

Compassion International does not control or own any covenant partner, and each partner raises its own funds, has its own governing board and has agreed to share funding with Compassion International to access Compassion’s programming.*

The Alliance is not an entity but is how multiple entities accomplish a shared purpose. In this way, the Alliance partners with and supports Compassion assisted children and local church partners.

*Exception to this statement: Effective the first day of fiscal year 2024, Compassion International, Inc., became the sole member of Compassion Australia, which formalized a long-expressed mutual desire for a closer relationship and integrated governance between the two entities.
