It May Be Just In Time
Juana does her homework at the family table.
As a single mother of seven, Ascencia Coronel felt like her life was a constant series of one step forward, two steps back. The one-room house in which she raised her children held only one bed, and the scraps of fabric she nailed up over the windows barely kept out the cold night air.
Ascencia sewed skirts at home so she could watch her children. Most mornings she began working at 3 a.m., and often she didn’t put down her sewing until 11 at night. Even with those grueling hours, she earned only about $4 a day.
But when Ascencia’s middle daughter, Juana, was just 3 years old she was registered at their local Compassion center. And into their family they made room for one more — Juana’s new sponsor!
“I’m thankful first for the Lord, because since I was little I received help with gifts and letters from my sponsors,” says Juana. “I’m also thankful to my sponsors and the center. God placed people in my life who could help me.”

Every time Juana’s sponsor sent a gift, Ascencia was overwhelmed with God’s provision.
“When I was in the most need and didn’t have anything to cook, we received a family gift, so we bought sugar and rice in 100-pound bags, five liters of oil, potatoes and even clothes for all of my children,” says Ascencia
Over the years, Juana’s sponsor sent several family gifts. With one, Ascencia was able to buy a bed and a dresser for their home. Another year, she got a table and chairs so the family would have a place to eat together and for the children to do their homework
Each time Juana looks around their home, filled with gifts from her sponsor, she thanks God for His gifts.
