Compassion Child Sponsorship FAQs

Have questions about becoming a Compassion sponsor or about how child sponsorship works? We’ve got answers to your frequently asked questions here.

About Child Sponsorship

Learn what child sponsorship is and how it works.

Child sponsorship means donating monthly to a child living in poverty and encouraging them through messages and prayer. Your monthly donation equips a local church to care for a child, introducing them to the good news of the gospel and providing them with essentials like medical checkups and education.

At Compassion, we partner with local churches within impoverished communities. These churches know each child personally and understand their unique needs. With your support, the local church can deliver the specific care a child needs to journey out of poverty.

Benefits of Compassion Child Sponsorship

Learn the benefits of child sponsorship and what the child you sponsor receives.

What does child sponsorship cover? The child you sponsor will receive the love and care they need to thrive. While individual support can look a little different depending on each child’s unique needs, every child receives:

  • The hope of the gospel: Each child is connected to a local church, where they hear the gospel and experience Jesus’ love for them.

  • Protection from abuse: Children are surrounded by loving adults trained in child protection who keep them safe and teach them how to advocate for themselves.

  • Care for their health: Children are monitored for malnutrition, have a yearly medical checkup and receive care when they’re hurt or sick.

  • Educational opportunities: Each child receives a quality education, equipping them to reach their dreams and become thriving adults.

  • Support after disaster: When disasters strike, children receive emergency care, including clean water, shelter and counseling.

  • Ongoing love and support: Each child is surrounded by pastors, volunteers and staff who love and care for them. Plus, they receive ongoing encouragement from you, their sponsor, through messages and prayer. This support reminds them just how loved they truly are.

Communicating With the Child You Sponsor

Learn about sending messages to the child you sponsor, when to expect a message and more.

As a sponsor, you can write to the child you sponsor either through physical mail or online through our website or app (Android/Apple).

After you send a message, our field staff will translate and deliver it to the child you sponsor. We recommend writing two to six times a year, but you’re free to write as often as you like.
