Robert L. Hawkins, Jr., Esq.

Robert has a strong calling to serve the cause of children living in poverty and possesses a deep faith in Jesus that informs his entire life.

Robert also has an extensive breadth of expertise in the law, strategy, execution, public relations and marketing, gained through years of legal and executive leadership. Prior to joining Compassion’s staff in June 2019, Robert served the global ministry through 18 years of service as a member of Compassion’s board of directors, five of which were as the board chair.

Robert’s past professional experience includes serving as the president of Hawkins Counsel Group LLC, a Delaware-based law firm he founded in 2009, which grew to include an association of attorneys providing legal counsel to individuals, for-profit organizations and not-for-profit organizations. Robert also headed up the technology division at the law firm of Maron Marvel Bradley and Anderson, providing online litigation support services to other law firms and Fortune 500 companies.

Robert has built revenue, awareness, membership and financial strength among some of the most highly recognized companies and brands in the world, including working with the Time Warner organization in roles such as director of new market development for Columbia House; vice president and general manager for Fortune magazine’s conference division; and chief marketing officer for Essence magazine. He also directed World Vision’s child sponsorship program as vice president of marketing.

Robert holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, a juris doctor degree from Widener University School of Law and a business organizations law certificate from the Institute of Delaware Corporate Law. In addition to his faithful service to Compassion International’s Board of Directors, he’s also served on the board of the Gospel Music Association, Delaware YMCA and Seeds of Greatness Ministries Inc.
