Meet Tirunesh

Tirunesh would do anything for her children and worked tirelessly as a petty trader and a house helper to support her family. But at 28, she was fired from her job. And she quickly became desperate for help.

Tirunesh would do anything for her children and worked tirelessly as a petty trader and a house helper to support her family. But at 28, she was fired from her job. She was six months pregnant with her second child and could no longer hide her growing belly.

“The last person who hired me threw me out,” she says, deeply affected by the memory. “They told me I was a liability.”

With no income, she couldn’t feed her 6-year-old son. She couldn’t take care of herself and her unborn baby. She quickly became desperate for help.

One day, a family member offered her food. Though they lived far away, it didn’t stop Tirunesh. She made the long trek, including hours of walking. But when she arrived, there was no food available. She had traveled for nothing.

Her neighbors saw her struggle. They contacted the local government, who put Tirunesh in touch with the Compassion Nurturers center at the closest church.

Her life completely changed.

Today, her daughter is 6 months old, and her son is healthy and strong thanks to consistent, nutritious meals. “I used to not eat for days, but now I eat with my family,” Tirunesh says, beaming.

Now she can focus on building income-generating skills so she can provide for her family.

“Soon, I may have a small start-up business like I once ran,” Tirunesh says.

Tirunesh and so many moms are now finding hope again thanks to your support of the Nurturers centers.

She arrives at the Nurturers center an hour early for every meeting, excited to connect with other mothers, save money and dream of new beginnings.

Zertihun's Update

A woman in a white dress with a green pattern sits in a grass field holding her sleeping baby in her lap as she looks at the camera and behind them are trees in the distance.

Last quarter, we introduced you to Zertihun, who was expecting her first child.

Her son, Barnabas, has been born and is growing into a strong, healthy baby. Zertihun plans to go back to school and finish grade 12.

Join us in praising God for a healthy delivery!

Please pray for Zertihun, her partner and Barnabas as they continue to grow.
