Asrat is celebrating her daughter Sifen’s first birthday.

Sifen is one of five babies who are celebrating their first birthdays at their Compassion Nurturers center in Ethiopia. These parties are much more than a birthday celebration; they signify a milestone that many babies here never see. But through the Compassion Nurturers program, these moms and babies received the care that helped them reach this important milestone!
"It was a miracle to meet Betelhem and have the center in my life,” Asrat says, mentioning the Compassion Nurturers staff member. “They gave us everything we needed, and I live happily with my 1-year-old in the city."
Another mom, Gaddise, knows that without the center and your support, she may not be celebrating today. “My pregnancy was so difficult that I had to go through surgery to give birth to my baby Tolosa,” she recalls. “I wouldn’t have been able to get Tolosa healthy and safe if Betelhem and the center were not on my side.”
Through your support, moms and babies have received physical, emotional and spiritual care through the Nurturers centers. They’ve also created vital relationships with other moms and Nurturers staff members like Betelhem.
“I came to work for this project two years ago when it started. I have celebrated the birthdays of more than 30 infants,” says Betelhem. “This day makes me emotional because it makes me remember the time most of these moms came to us, and it was when they were desperately in need.”
