80 Letter-Writing Questions for Sponsors

Not sure what to write about to the child you sponsor? You'll always have something to say to the child you sponsor when you use these encouraging, fun ideas. Here, you’ll find a variety of letter-writing prompts that’ll inspire you.

Why Letter Writing Matters to the Child You Sponsor

Your encouraging words make a huge difference in the life of the child you sponsor.
A study we conducted in four countries found that:

  • More than 90% of children feel joy, love, encouragement and belonging when they receive messages from their sponsors.

  • Sponsors' messages motivate many children to pray, participate in church and school activities, and work to improve their circumstances.

  • Children who receive messages from their sponsors often show more confidence, care, generosity and helpfulness.

  • Most children keep their sponsors’ notes forever and reread them regularly — especially when they feel discouraged.

You don’t have to write a lot to make an impact on the life of the child you sponsor. We recommend sending two to six messages per year. Some people choose to send a card or quick note each year for Christmas and the child’s birthday.

Bookmark this page of writing prompts and return to them whenever you’re looking for ideas on what to say. Remember, your message doesn’t have to be long. A few kind words, a prayer or a photo is a powerful way to show the child you sponsor that you’re thinking of them!
