Our holistic child development program fights global poverty at the grass-roots level.
Global poverty is such a pervasive and complex issue that no one single organization has the means to defeat it on its own. Thousands of organizations worldwide attack the issue from a multitude of angles. While there are many organizations working to fight global poverty, Compassion International is unique in its grass-roots, church-based approach.
In 26 countries around the world, Compassion addresses the massive issue of global poverty at the minute level — through local, indigenous churches that minister to those in desperate need. Local church leaders are able to reach out to individual families in a personal and intimate way and address each family’s specific needs. Conversely, families in impoverished communities know the names and faces of their local church leaders and have confidence that Compassion’s child development centers are safe places for their children to grow up.
While it may seem less efficient than the broader, more general approach of community development, this personal, individual approach to fighting global poverty produces massive ripple effects. Changing the life of an individual child doesn’t affect just the child. That child changes his family. His family changes his local community. His community changes his country. Enough changed countries change the world.
As a whole, global poverty is overwhelming. The sheer size of the problem can cause feelings of paralysis (“I don’t know where to start”) or despair (“I can’t make a difference”). Compassion’s Child Sponsorship Program scales the problem down to a smaller, more manageable level and offers a practical way for someone to change the life of a child and begin the lasting ripple effect.
You can make a difference in the lives of children impacted by global poverty. You can start by sponsoring a child right now. Sponsoring a child will profoundly change the future for your child — and will change your own life as well.
