August 28, 2023

In August 2023, low pressure systems off both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts caused heavy rains and flooding throughout Nicaragua. Moderate to strong winds resulted in fallen trees in urban areas, and the increased rain has caused rivers to overflow. Families who live close to the rivers have been evacuated. To date, 38 participants have been impacted. The Child Development Center (CDC) took immediate action and has been in direct contact with the affected families. The Compassion Nicaragua National Office is closely monitoring the situation and is actively evaluating how to best assist the affected families.

Please pray for the flood waters to recede and for continued protection of the families in Nicaragua.

Disaster Final Report: October 12, 2023

As of October 12, 2023, the flooding has subsided. In total, 38 participants were impacted. Thankfully, everyone is healthy. The Child Development Centers (CDCs) were able to provide families with the following relief items: rice, beans, cooking oil, sugar, milk, cookies, oatmeal, spaghetti, juice, coffee, tuna, tooth paste, toilet paper, mosquito nets and other household items. Families have returned home and resumed their daily activities.

Thank you for praying for the families affected by the heavy rain.
