On October 24, 2023, heavy rainfall caused the Manzanares River and the Tamacá Creek to overflow in Santa Marta, Colombia. The rain and river overflow created flooding throughout the nearby communities. To date, 48 participants have been impacted. Thankfully, everyone is healthy. The Child Development Center (CDC) staff members have been actively providing support by conducting home visits to assess the impact on each family. They have also provided relief items such as mattresses, potable water, cleaning supplies and home repair materials. The Compassion Colombia National Office is actively monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

Disaster Update #1: December 6, 2023
As of December 6, 2023, the heavy rain in Santa Marta has been subsiding. To date, 49 participants and two Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been impacted. Thankfully, everyone is healthy. The Compassion Colombia National Office and CDCs provided impacted participants and their families with household items, mattresses, air conditioning, and food assistances. The CDCs are finalizing improvements to their structures and are operating their program as usual.
Please continue to pray for the participants, their families and CDCs as they fully recover and rebuild their homes and structures.
Disaster Final Report: December 20, 2023
As of December 20, 2023, the rain has ceased in Santa Marta, Colombia. To date, 49 participants and two Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been impacted. The CDCs successfully provided mattresses, food, cleaning kits, household items, and construction materials, enabling the participants and their families to undertake essential repairs to their homes. Thankfully, all 49 participants and their families are in good health, and the two CDCs continue to offer support through home visits to address their ongoing needs. Clothing and additional food aid have been provided to the most impacted participants and their families. The affected CDCs have been actively engaged in the restoration of walls impacted by rainfall, and they have procured zinc sheets to replace those that were affected by the intense rain.
