Peace in the Bible
When we look at the wars, violence, and poverty in the world, it’s easy to wonder if peace is even possible. If peace is the absence of conflict, then perfect and universal peace may not be fully realized until Jesus returns to restore and redeem the earth.
But the Bible still commands us to seek peace now (Romans 14:19, NIV) and says that peacemakers are blessed (Matthew 5:9, NIV). And even with all the trouble we face in this broken world, it’s helpful to remember that the peace of God transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7, NIV).
This is one reason the gospel is so powerful for children living in poverty. When children in Compassion’s program learn that inner peace is possible through Christ, no matter what circumstances they live in, it gives them hope.
They discover that praying, reading the Word of God, and trusting him with their lives gives them peace in the chaos and struggle of life in poverty. And many find that, as they grow, they’re able to bring the peace of God to their relationships and communities.
Digging into what the Bible says about peace is comforting for all of us. We all face conflict and fear and pain, and we need peace. There are many Bible verses that can help you find peace — at home, at work, in your struggles and in the Church. That’s the power of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
