An Answered Prayer for Tivani

Tivani loves going to her Compassion center in Indonesia. She can share her thoughts and needs with her friends and her tutor. Most importantly, Tivani has also learned to take all her requests to God. “I became more prayerful after I was registered at the center. My tutor taught me to pray about everything…” says Tivani.

Secretly, a new Bible of her own was at the top of Tivani’s prayer list, starting in second grade. Her family had two Bibles that they all shared, but they were falling apart due to constant use. Unfortunately, Tivani’s father, Yoga, did not make enough money as a day laborer to afford another Bible, which costs $10 USD. But that didn’t deter Tivani. She explains, “Since my tutor told me to keep praying, every day I prayed that one day my father would have enough money to buy a Bible for me.”

In early 2021, Tivani’s situation only became more complicated when her mother left the family. Despite this, Tivani kept praying. She prayed for her father Yoga, who was lonely and struggling to keep providing for Tivani and her sister. She began to sit with him every morning as he drank his coffee before work, trying to comfort him in the absence of her mother. And she always prayed for a Bible.

In December of 2021, Tivani’s center had a Christmas celebration in which she received a gift from her sponsor. Imagine her joy when Tivani received a new Bible along with her other gifts! God had answered the prayer she had been praying for five years. And it was at a time when she least expected it!

Tivani brings her Bible everywhere now. Her faith has been strengthened by this answer to her prayers, and she is resolved to keep praying: “After I received the gift, I didn’t stop praying because prayer is how I keep my relationship with God. I will keep praying forever because I need to pray for my family, my friends and my tutor.”
