A Compassion Tour is a life-changing experience. It’s an opportunity to witness your ministry fighting at the front lines of spiritual, economic and physical poverty. Each trip allows sponsors to spend time with their sponsored children, meet our local staff, experience the local culture and area, and get an insider's look at Compassion's child development programs in a safe and organized group setting.
A visit is a very exciting event, and it is normal to feel a little nervous. When Compassion confirms your visit, you will be provided with an itinerary that includes some fun activities you can share with your sponsored child. Your Compassion host will be there to help you both feel comfortable and to translate if needed. You’ll likely have the opportunity to share a meal together with your child, and you will also have the chance to give gifts to your child. Don’t be surprised if your child’s family has a gift for you too! You are a special part of their life. Take lots of pictures, as this will be a day to remember!
Please keep in mind that your child may be a little overwhelmed or shy at the beginning of your visit. Please see the few Conversation Starters & Activity Ideas for you to consider.
You are welcome to bring gifts! Both practical and fun items are welcome and greatly appreciated. We suggest preparing a backpack or tote bag with gifts, as this is a good way to measure what you’re bringing as well as ensure you do not overwhelm your sponsored child.
