Sidney was born in rural Machakos, Kenya. Although raised in a Catholic home, Sidney began researching religion and God as a young boy. He decided to give his life to Christ at age thirteen.
Prior to working at Compassion, Sidney served as the Client Services Director for a large Kenyan consulting agency. He directed the agency’s client-servicing strategy, which combined advertising, event management, public relations and marketing. Sidney yearned to use his gifts in communications to help those in need around him. In 2002, he began working at Compassion.
Through the years, Sidney has served in various roles at Compassion Kenya including Communications Specialist and Sponsor & Donor Manager. Sidney served as the Kenya Country Director for over three years, and was subsequently named Regional Vice President for Africa in April of 2010.
Sidney is passionate about Compassion’s strategy of empowering local, indigenous churches to minister to children in poverty. He believes this distinction of working with the local church is one that not only allows children and their families/caregivers to be loved and known in a tangible way by church staff, it also works to build the capacity of God’s Church around the world.
Through Compassion, Sidney and his family sponsor Sheeba, a girl in India. Sidney also serves on the board of directors for 410 Bridge in Kenya, an organization that links U.S. churches to Kenyan communities.
Sidney is fluent in English and Swahili.
Sidney earned a BA degree in Communications, and an MA in Leadership. He is currently a candidate for a Ph.D. in Leadership and Organizational Development.
Sidney and his wife, Lydia, have three children and currently reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In his spare time, Sidney enjoys reading world literature and traveling.
