Announcement #1
"All over the world I've found that if you ask a poor man or woman, 'What can I do to help you?' the answer is the same. Whatever the circumstance, the poor do not request money or personal things. They invariably look back at you with hopeful eyes and say, 'If you want to help me, help my children'" (Too Small to Ignore by Wess Stafford, page 192). What is absolutely unthinkable, though, is that today alone, 30,000 children under age 5 will die of preventable causes. However, you can do something about this.

Dear God I was telling a friend about you. He wants to know how old you are.

This is an actual prayer from David, a little boy in Ecuador. Children in poverty have so little, but they share what little they have like David, who shares his faith in Jesus Christ with others. What an amazing lesson the poor teach us about generosity! To learn how you can make a difference today or to hear more prayers from children in poverty, go to compassion.com/youcan.

A little girl in Thailand prays, "Dear God ... Who will I live with if I don't have parents?" This little girl fears losing her parents as so many children in poverty already have. One in 13 children in developing countries is orphaned, leaving nearly 143 million children with no clean water, not enough food and no education. Without your help, the future will be extremely difficult for them.

Today, 16,000 children will die of hunger-related causes. But this doesn't have to happen! So what can you do about it? Visit compassion.com/youcan for ways to be an advocate for children in poverty.

Announcement #8
Approximately 85 percent of people who profess faith in Jesus Christ do so between the ages of 4 and 14. This makes it vitally important that we reach people with the gospel while they are young. Compassion International is doing this. Visit compassion.com/youcan to learn more and find out what you can do.

Announcement #9
Children in developing countries are among the world's most vulnerable to diseases, malnutrition and preventable deaths. Children under age 5 account for only 10 percent of the world's population, yet suffer 40 percent of the diseases worldwide. Many of these diseases could be prevented with access to clean water or vaccines that cost less than $1. Want to change this? To learn more and find ways to help, visit compassion.com/youcan.

Announcement #10
But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. Psalm 10:14 (NIV)

The Lord cares deeply about the orphaned, the widowed and the unloved. He has given us the resources to help others and, as His church, He expects us to help, especially the most vulnerable children. Visit compassion.com/youcan to learn more and to find out how you can make a difference.

Announcement #11
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. -- Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

Compassion International takes this approach in ministering to children in poverty. Given the opportunity to learn income-generating skills, to develop social skills, and to hear the gospel, thousands of children have come to know and receive Jesus Christ. Now they not only have the hope of salvation, but also the ability to make a living, to provide for their own families, and in many cases to even help their parents and siblings become self-sufficient. Announcement #12
He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." Mark 9:36-37 (NIV)

God has called each of us to love one another, especially children. Somewhere in the world right now, another one of the 30,000 children under age 5 who will die today is taking a last breath. But you can change this! Educate yourself on the needs of children suffering from poverty around the world. Find out what you can do to save lives today by visiting compassion.com/youcan

Announcement #13
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:27 (NIV)

God's Word doesn't get much clearer than that. A direct result of our faith in Jesus Christ should be to care for those who cannot care for themselves, to speak up on their behalf. This may be a financial donation, a prayer for the suffering, or a friendship with a child in need of mentoring. Step out in faith today. Visit compassion.com/youcan for ideas of how you can minister to those in need.

Announcement #14
A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. Proverbs 22:9 (NIV)

Are we blessed in this nation? Yes. Did you know the low-income average for the world is $825 per year or less? That means that on average, the lowest-income families in the world 37 percent of the world's population are making all of $2 a day. By the standards of the world, more than 2 billion people on the planet live below the U.S. poverty line. God has called us to share our blessings with the poor, the orphaned and the widowed. Visit compassion.com/youcan to find out what you can do to put an end to poverty.

Announcement #15
Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:15-17 (NIV)

It is very easy to ask the Lord to care for children around the world in poverty, bondage, orphanages and other hopeless situations, and we should be praying for them. But Jesus asks us to love others by clothing them, caring for them and nurturing them. Did you know you can make a huge impact on the lives of children in poverty by being a child advocate? By reaching out and teaching others about the issues facing these millions of children in poverty, you can make more of a difference than you will ever know! Visit compassion.com/youcan today to learn more about the children's plight and what you can do to get involved from your own church, school, home and office.
