This Compassion sponsor tour will be very unique. It will be comprised of listeners from the JOYFM broadcast area who together will visit one of the regions within Nicaragua that continues to be most significantly impacted by the realities of poverty. It is possible that the image you might have in your mind of the drugs and violence associated with this country may cause you to question this location. But, Nicaragua has become a very safe, welcoming country through a deliberate focus to drive the drugs and violence out of this beautiful country. Along the way you’ll serve in ministry together to bless and encourage many beautiful children of this region as well as opportunity to minister to the men and women who minister to them in Jesus’ name through the ministry of Compassion. Every aspect of this tour has been carefully thought out and prepared to provide yourself and your family, if you choose to bring them, with a safe yet rich cultural experience while allowing you the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.
Have you wondered who greets the child you sponsor when he/she arrives at the Compassion child development center? What is his community like? Does your sponsorship really make a difference in her life? Well, wonder no more! Join us on this sponsor tour to Nicaragua where these questions and many more will be answered. When you return from this adventure, you will certainly never look at this country or your ministry of Compassion the same way.
While you will certainly see some remarkable touristy sites, your adventure will be extremely unique. This trip is not designed as a typical tourist vacation. We’ll be serving together on various service projects, ministering to the children and youth and along the way learning more about God’s heart for the poor. As great as these experiences will be, nothing can compare with the day we’ve set aside for you to focus entirely on building your relationship with that child you sponsor in his/her local context.

Saturday, July 27: Travel to Nicaragua
We depart from St Louis early in the morning this first day. After changing planes in Miami and completing our journey to Nicaragua, we will check into our hotel and orient ourselves to the area and our staff hosting us during this trip.
Sunday, July 28: Expand Your Heart
What better way to sense God’s heart for this country and the communities we’ll be serving in than to join together with our brothers and sisters in Christ for Sunday worship at a Compassion Child Development Center in the region where we will be serving this week. After church we’ll have informal time to interact with the Compassion-assisted children who attend this church. This afternoon we’ll plan to do a little sight-seeing to understand our surroundings better.
Monday & Tuesday, July 29 & 30: Our Experience Continues
Due to the size of our group, we will divide into two ministry teams. Each team will visit a different child development center in the same region. Upon arrival, each team will be treated to a special time of welcome prepared by the children of this student center. This will be a great opportunity to learn how Compassion works in the lives of these children and to their expression of the unique gifts and talents God has given them. After lunch each ministry team will further divide into four teams to interact with the children though VBS-style activities (Drama, worship, games or arts and crafts) which we will plan in advance. Dinner and a time of worship together will conclude this amazing day. For any sponsors who have a sponsored child who attend this center, you’ll get to meet them while we are visiting the center. On Day 4 each ministry team will return to the same student center to continue relationships they have formed during the previous day. Today you’ll divide once again to experience “A Day in the Life of a Sponsored Child.” During the afternoon, you’ll enjoy free time to interact and play with the children.
Wednesday, July 31st: Sponsor/Child Fun Day
Today will be a day you won’t soon forget. Today, whether you have met your child previously on this trip or not, you’ll have the opportunity to spend the whole day together. We’ll choose a fun location that fosters interest, conversation and great interaction. Whether your relationship has developed over time or you have only started your sponsorship.
Thursday & Friday, August 1 & 2: More ministry together
For our final two days we’ll once again be divided into two teams. Each will visit a different Compassion child development center for two full days of ministry. The first day will be about building relationship. We’ll get to know the staff and children, minister through our Vacation Bible School ministry and have some unscheduled time to interact with the children or staff as well. The second day will be about service as we roll up our sleeves to work alongside church partner staff helping them paint, clean-up and possibly assist with some minor repairs needed at the child development center. Later, we’ll have time for shopping before returning to the hotel to clean-up and prepare for our final dinner together before we return home tomorrow.
Saturday, August 3: Travel day back to the United States
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $180.00 per person. Final Payment of $2020.00 is due no later than 4/15/2013.
