If you want to experience the heart of Central America, then Honduras is the place to visit. The country is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea.
Honduras was home to several important indigenous cultures, most notably the Maya.
The region is considered a biodiversity hotspot because of the numerous plant and animal species that can be found there. Like other countries in the region, Honduras contains vast biological resources. The country hosts more than 6,000 species of vascular plants, of which 630 (described so far) are orchids; around 250 reptiles and amphibians, more than 700 bird species, and 110 mammal species, half of them being bats.
Honduras has rain forests, cloud forests (which can rise up to nearly three thousand meters above sea level), mangroves, savannas and mountain ranges with pine and oak trees, and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. In the Bay Islands there are bottlenose dolphins, manta rays, parrot fish, schools of blue tang and whale shark.
Even though all of this alone makes visiting Honduras worthwhile, it is the experience of seeing firsthand the work of Compassion International that makes this trip so special.
During our tour we will have the opportunity to experience Child Development through Sponsorship and share in the early stages of their Leadership Development Program (LDP). In addition, Complementary Interventions (CIV) supports these programs through malaria prevention, HIV/AIDS awareness, and other special needs. As we interact with the children at the student centers and hear from the church partner staff, we will understand the difference our partnership is making.
And of course, we know the main reason that you will want to travel to Honduras is to meet your sponsored child. The hugs and smiles, the laughter and the tears, will all be things that will make this a memory to last a lifetime. Please prayerfully consider joining us on this amazing trip to the heart of Central America.

Day 1 – Friday, October 17: Arrival in San Pedro Sula, Honduras
After meeting in our gateway city of Miami, we will travel together for our early evening flight to Honduras.
Day 2 – Saturday, October 18: Visit Child Development Center
Today finds us at our first Compassion Child Development Sponsorship Program (CDSP) center. We will greet our church partner and observe children in the classrooms. We will review children’s files and learn how Compassion works at the center. We may even distract the children with fun and games and allow them to share some of the excitement that all of us are feeling. Be ready to play games, share crafts, sports, or VBS with the children. We may also have the opportunity to bless the center with a small service project.
For lunch, we will serve a meal to the kids, and then afterwards, children involved in Compassion’s program will welcome us into their homes.
Day 3 – Sunday, October 19: Church with our Compassion Family and a Relaxing Afternoon
Together we will join our brothers and sisters in Christ for worship at a local church partner. What a wonderful way to spend the day, worshiping our Lord and Savior Honduran style!
This afternoon, we will spend some time sightseeing along the coast and stop by a beautiful beach on the Caribbean.
Day 4 – Monday, October 20: CHILD VISIT DAY!
This is the day that everyone has been waiting for – a chance to connect face to face with your sponsored child and spend a joyous day playing together and getting to know one another. This precious time is way beyond the words that you have shared in a letter. You will have a translator to help you communicate, but the hugs and smiles that will be shared will need no interpretation.
Tonight we will share a farewell dinner and recap the amazing experiences of the past few days!
Day 5 – Tuesday, October 21: Departure from Honduras
With our hearts brimming with memories, we will say farewell and return home to share amazing stories with our family and friends. We pray that although the tour is ending, your experience will last for the rest of your life!
In order to ensure our children's protection and determine eligibility to travel with Compassion, we now require all travelers (over the age of 18) to complete a criminal background check to ensure the safety of the children in our programs.
Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration. If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return. Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
RESERVATIONS should be made well in advance and require a nonrefundable deposit of $180 per person. Final Payment of $2595 is due no later than 6/24/2014.
