During the course of this incredible adventure we will explore the historic city and surrounding areas of Barranquilla - Colombia’s largest industrial, port city situated beautifully on the North Western coast. Barranquilla is home to one of the largest carnivals in the world and people travel from all over the world to celebrate here once a year. Barranquilla has a lot to offer both residents and visitors to the city, but along with it’s sights and wonders we will explore the reality of poverty in this booming, industrial city. The contradiction of poverty amidst the cobbled streets will create a deeper understanding of why Compassion is so committed to the children of Colombia and communicate how vivid the need is. Hope will rise as you see the smiles, hear the stories and witness the impact of the Church - the local hero in the community! Be prepared for a life-changing experience where you’ll have further opportunities to see all that Colombia and Compassion have to offer!

Get excited for the opportunity to:

  • Spend an entire day with your beloved sponsored child at a fun venue
  • Meet the children of Compassion, see the homes where they live and enjoy time with their families
  • Meet the dedicated mothers of the Child Survival Program
  • Be inspired by the incredible college students in our Leadership Development Program
  • Engage with the committed and heroic country staff from our Compassion field office

Here at the equator, with the sun forever overhead, the earth beneath your feet, heart-stopping vistas in every direction and the warmth of the locals putting you at ease – you may find it difficult to leave. Days 1: Our Adventure Begins

Friday, October 19th: We depart from Miami on Avianca Airlines flight #3 to Barranquilla, Colombia at 3PM in the afternoon. With hearts ready for a grand adventure we board the plane with expectation and excitement. Upon our arrival we’ll meet the excited country staff and depart for the hotel and a good night’s rest!

Day 2-3: Engaging our Experience

Saturday, October 20th: In the morning we will visit a nearby Child Development Center and engage with the children who attend there. What an incredible opportunity to love on the children and share life together. Today will be all about understanding more of Compassion’s program and what part you play in rescuing children from poverty by partnering with Compassion.

Sunday, October 21st: Today we visit another project and have the opportunity to worship together with our brothers and sister in Christ at one of the may Churches we partner with in-country.  During the afternoon we will meet the brave women and their beautiful babies from our Child Survival Program – this experience will remind you that we are not only developing children but intervening with education and care when children are most vulnerable – as infants. Interact and hear the hearts of these moms as you soak up quality time with the babies! Tonight we will hear from university students in our Leadership Development Program over dinner. Listen as they share their testimonies of how Compassion is changing their lives and developing future leaders.

Day 4: Day of Connection

Monday, October 22nd: Today you'll spend a very special day filled with laughter, hugs, stories and fun with the incredible child, or children, you sponsor. The Compassion staff has planned a day that you and your sponsored child will never forget. This is what you've waited for, so treasure every moment of this amazing day and be prepared for God to move your heart in ways you never anticipated.

Day 5: Bringing the Journey to an End

Tuesday, October 23rd: We depart in the morning on Avianca flight #2 at 10 AM and catch our connections home. We arrive into Miami at 2 PM and say goodbye to newfound friends as we prepare to share our incredible experience with our families awaiting us.

Please visit Screening One Sponsor Tour BC to complete your online background check at the time of registration.  If you are unable to complete this online, please contact us and we will send you a paper form for you to fill out and return.  Compassion uses a third party vendor, Screening One to process background checks.  The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is encrypted and secure.
