Brazil Poverty Rate. The poverty rate in Brazil differs drastically between the southern and northern portions of the country. In the northern part of the country the percentage of people living in extreme poverty is 59% while only 4% of people in the south live in extreme poverty. Moreover, the population in the north is 6.7 million compared to 16.3 million in the south. There's also a significant gap in the life expectancy between the two regions. For instance, people in the south live longer by almost 14 years. The disparity is also seen in education and the number of deaths per live births.
