PREVENTING DISEASE AND PROMOTING HEALTH IN HAITI

Compassion has actively worked in Haiti since 1968, and served as some of the first responders to the 2010 earthquake. The earthquake caused widespread damage throughout Haiti, followed by a cholera epidemic.

This epidemic is a direct result of Haiti’s lack of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) services throughout the country.

To remedy the continual and needless spread of disease and death, Compassion Haiti began an ambitious plan to help save the lives of children and their families through a comprehensive water strategy. This strategy is now in the second phase and is responding to this epidemic by partnering with donors like you to:

  • Enhance access to improved water sources in 12 church partners in the South Region
  • Improve level of sanitation in 12 church partners
  • Provide training in all 15 church partners to ensure learning and behavioral change among individuals, households, and communities
  • Ensure the sustainability of the physical infrastructure in 12 church partners
  • Reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases in 4,311 children and their families

With the vital resource of safe water that we take for granted multiple times a day, you can help change a child’s life story. While the amount of pain and suffering on top of the existing poverty can be overwhelming, it is in the darkest hours that Christ’s light shines the brightest.

Safe Water Changes the Lives of Children Like Sindy

Sindy currently attends one of the 12 centers that will benefit from your donation. Each child that attends these centers (like Sindy) will receive life-changing access to safe water and training on sanitation and hygiene. The reach, however, will go beyond the current beneficiaries at each center. It will reach the families of these children (an estimated total of 21,500 people) and generations of children to come.
