General Counsel and Senior Vice President of the General Counsel Office
Stephen Oakley is General Counsel and Senior Vice President of the General Counsel Office. In this role Steve is responsible for overseeing all of Compassion's domestic and international legal, risk and governmental affairs.
A life-long native of Chicago, Steve has a B.A. from the University of Illinois, a Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School, a Master of Ministry from Moody Theological Seminary and a certificate in International Human Rights Law from Oxford University. Steve is admitted to practice law in Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Colorado.
Steve practiced in commercial litigation for the first half of his career, before transitioning into commercial transactions for the remainder of his years in private practice. Upon graduating from Moody Seminary, Steve left the private practice of law to serve as Vice President and General Counsel of Moody Bible Institute. Steve joined Compassion in October 2011 and enjoys hiking, traveling and sailing with his family. Through Compassion Steve and his family are sponsoring a 12-year old Ethiopian girl named Selamawit.
