Frequently Asked Questions for Full-Time Positions

1. How do I apply?
  • Begin your job search using our Job Listings Locator. Our job board contains all recent openings at the Colorado Springs headquarters, US based regional positions, and a select number of international positions. You may search jobs by filtering keywords, categories or location to find and view job descriptions.
  • Submit your personal profile to enter our database and begin the application process. You can log in using Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn or through manual entry.
  • Apply for a job that matches your skill-set and stirs passion within your heart. You will be asked to upload your most current resume, update contact information, and answer basic questions around our statement of faith.
  • Update your profile at any time with new job experience or skills. You may also view the status of your potential job opportunity by logging into your profile after submitting the application.
2. What happens after I apply?

Our talent acquisition team will personally review your resume and application. If your skills and experience align with the position, the hiring manager will review your application. 3. What should I consider as I prepare for an interview with Compassion International?

Compassion is a faith-based organization committed to excellence. We are looking for candidates who are not only qualified in their field of expertise, but also have an active spiritual life. Our ideal candidates feel called to use their God-given talents to help release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

4. What does the interview process look like?

The interview process varies depending on the level of the position for which you are applying. A recruiter will always be the first person to review your application and contact you for an initial interview. This initial interview could be by phone or video. 5. Does Compassion utilize digital interviewing technology?

Yes, Compassion works with a company called HireVue who provides on demand digital interviewing software. This allows candidates to interview on their own time, from any location. HireVue works on any mobile device or computer with a forward-facing camera. Learn more here.

6. When will you contact my references, if ever?

If you are a finalist for a position, you will be notified to email your references. All offers are contingent upon completion of the reference form.

7. How will I be notified when my status changes?

We communicate your status primarily through email. It’s important to keep your email up to date and to check your spam and junk folders. We will communicate with you, regardless of whether you move forward in the process. You can also log into your profile at any time and view the status of your application.

8. Where is the job located?

The location of each job is found next to the job title listing. If listed in Colorado Springs, you are expected to relocate to work at the Global Ministry Center (GMC). Certain positions may be eligible for relocation assistance. If the job is listed as regional, you should check the specific job listing for a state. If no states are listed, it could be anywhere in the USA. If the job is international, we typically look for candidates that are living in the listed region already.

9. Do I need to send in a cover letter with my resume?

People interested in sending a cover letter will have the opportunity to upload it during the application process, however it is not required.

10. Can I contact the hiring manager after my interview?

Hiring managers are requested not to meet or take personal calls from candidates in order to ensure the process is unbiased and each candidate is considered fairly. If you would like to follow up with a hiring manager, please work through your recruiter.

11. When can I expect to hear from someone after I have completed my application?

Due to the volume of applications received and the desire for Compassion to thoroughly review and evaluate each applicant, the time it takes to receive a response from us varies. In some cases it may take several weeks. We will notify you of your status via email.

12. Are there opportunities to work abroad?

Compassion is a para-church organization, which means we work alongside the local church and hire local nationals to work in country. A local church partner is always the implementer of our child development work. Our decision to partner with local churches is a strategic one. We believe local congregations are catalysts for community change and optimize the mutual respect, resources and common purpose critical in caring for children.

13. What if I don’t see a job that would benefit from my skills and talents?

If you don’t see a position that matches your skillset or interest, we encourage you to apply under a category called general consideration. This allows our recruiters to identify your interest in Compassion so we can contact you about new positions, as they become available.

14. What should I wear to my interview?

While Compassion’s daily dress code is casual, showing up to your interview in business-casual or business-formal attire is common.

Frequently Asked Questions for the Internship Program

1. How long will it take to receive a response after I submit my application?

You will receive a response confirming that we’ve received your application. Our talent acquisition team starts the initial review of applications immediately after the application deadline. If you are selected to continue through the hiring process you will be sent a video interview with an average of 3-5 days for completion. From there, you may be contacted by a recruiter for a pre-screen interview to discuss your personal walk with Christ and finally will interview with the hiring manager for a specific position. The entire process takes between 4-6 weeks.

2. How can I check the status of my application?

You can check the status of your application at any time after you submit it by logging into your account.

3. It’s after the application deadline. Can I still apply?

We receive hundreds of applications for the internship program every year. While we would love to accept applications after the deadline, our deadlines are in place to allow sufficient time to evaluate each candidate thoroughly. Accepting applications after the posted deadline would discredit our commitment to other applicants, and we therefore do not accept late submissions.

4. What if my status says incomplete?

First, ensure that every page of the application is completed, and that you have answered and submitted each essay question. If you are still having issues, please email internships@compassion.com.

5. Do I have to live with a Compassion provided host home?

Host homes are provided for anyone who needs them; however, if you have your own living arrangements you are welcome to use them.

6. How will I be matched with a host homes?

Host homes are Compassion employees that volunteer to host an intern. We match you with a host home based on the personal biography you send us with questions regarding your interests, hobbies, and preferences on household conditions.

7. What if I can’t make the full 10 week commitment? / Are the internship dates flexible?

We ask that all applicants commit to the full ten weeks; however, start and end dates can be reasonably flexible on a case by case basis.

8. I’m in graduate school. Can I still apply?

Compassion offers a limited number of graduate level internship positions. If the job description calls for a graduate level applicant, you are welcome to apply.

9. I have an associate’s degree. Can I still apply?

Applicants with only an associate’s degree are not eligible to apply unless they are currently seeking a bachelor degree with a graduation date that meets the internship requirements.

10. I am not a US citizen. Can I still apply?

Yes, however, you must be able to provide your own valid US work visa.

11. Are there any longer internship opportunities?

Unfortunately, we do not currently offer any long term internships. We have two 10-week programs that are offered during the spring and summer semesters.

12. Is this internship paid?

Yes. We pay our interns between $10-$15/hour based on the position and experience.

13. Is the mission trip mandatory?

The mission trip is an optional opportunity for the interns to receive first-hand experience regarding Compassion’s work in the field and meet the children our ministry serves. We highly encourage each intern to go, as it is truly an incredible opportunity that many full-time employees do not receive. Interns are required to raise their own finances for the trip.

14. What fundraising assistance does Compassion provide?

We provide various tools, tips, and ideas to make fundraising easier, including an online donation portal. We do not, however, provide monetary scholarships.
