Disaster Alert: December 4, 2019

On Sunday, December 2, 2019 Typhoon Tisoy (international name Kammuri) first made landfall in Sorsogon, Philippines. The eye of the typhoon was seen over Burias Island, Masbate on December 3rd. The typhoon has caused heavy rains and violent winds in the Bicol Region and Southern Luzon. So far, two Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been affected, however affected beneficiary details are not available yet. Communication is a challenge, as power lines were damaged and there is no electricity in some areas. Several additional CDCs have been affected and they are still assessing the impact on beneficiaries, as well as providing relief support as needed. Three field based Project Facilitators (PFs) in Albay, Samar and Biliran have been affected, as well. One PF had to evacuate his home due to water rising in a creek behind his home and another two have no electricity, which is delaying assessment reports. Transportation in the Bicol area is also affected because the Legazpi airport was severely damaged.

Please pray for the safety of our beneficiaries and church partners throughout the affected regions.
