Final Update: December 22, 2020

Most of the impacted families have returned to their homes. A total of 3,681 beneficiaries and their families were affected and were supported by the church partner using disaster relief funds. Additional funds are being used to rebuild homes and Child Development Centers.

Thank you for your prayers for the affected beneficiaries, families, and church partners.

Update #1: November 5, 2020

So far, 1,130 beneficiaries and 22 Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been identified as affected. Many of the affected families are in evacuation centers, which puts them at higher risk of contracting COVID-19. Our initial reports indicate over 600 CDCs were damaged or destroyed; however, specific details are not yet available. The impact assessment is still ongoing.

The affected families will receive support from our Crisis Relief fund to help repair their homes. Additional Crisis Intervention funds will used to help cover the extensive needs for this disaster response effort.

Please pray for the safety, health, and provision of affected beneficiaries, families, and CDCs.

Disaster Alert: November 2, 2020

The Super Typhoon Goni (Rolly) made landfall in the Philippines, and there is extensive damage in the Aurora-Quezon area. Strong wind and rain caused damage to homes, power outages and downed communications. Thankfully, many people evacuated before the typhoon made landfall. The Child Development Centers (CDC) have given preliminary reports of damaged and destroyed church buildings, damaged homes and flooding; however, a list of affected children is not yet available. The Compassion Philippines National Office and CDC staff are assessing impact. The power and communication outages are making the assessment challenging.

Please pray for the safety and provision of affected beneficiaries, families, church partners, and staff.
