Advisory: Low Pressure System in El Salvador - October 2018

  |   Posted: October 19, 2018   |   Updated: October 22, 2018

Final Report: October 22, 2018

Heavy rains caused by a low pressure system in El Salvador have stopped. Some beneficiaries’ homes were heavily damaged by landslides, wind, and rain. In total, two Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 70 beneficiaries were affected. CDC staff are responding to beneficiary needs. The Compassion El Salvador national office is providing Compassion Disaster Relief funds to help families with food and small home repairs. Thank you for your prayers over this situation. Please continue praying for those who are recovering and for beneficiaries to stay safe in the few remaining weeks of rainy season left.

Disaster Alert: October 19, 2018

A low pressure system caused continuous rain in parts of El Salvador earlier this week. Because of last week’s rains, the ground is already saturated. Rivers and streets in some communities along the coast have flooded, and landslides have also been a concern. At this time, the rains are beginning to decrease. So far, two Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 54 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Beneficiary homes have been damaged and children have lost clothes and other personal items. CDCs are using Compassion Disaster Relief funds to help children and their families with small home repairs, food, and basic hygiene items.

Please pray for:

  • Healing and support for affected families
  • CDCs as they assist their communities
  • Wisdom for local authorities
  • Safety for Compassion staff

Compassion El Salvador will keep us updated as more information becomes available.
