Advisory: Heavy Rains in East Indonesia - February 2019

In total, 54 beneficiaries were affected, and all those impacted have been assisted. The Child Development Center (CDC) and National Office staff have visited the affected families and discussed plans for disaster mitigation. Thank you for your prayers for the beneficiaries in this area.

Update #1: February 15, 2019

The heavy rains have subsided in the Manado area. So far, 54 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. The Child Development Centers (CDCs) have been providing emergency response supplies including food, mattresses, clothing, school books, and uniforms to the affected beneficiaries and their families. Food distributed included rice, eggs, sugar, and noodles. The Indonesia Compassion National Office and CDC staff have been working with local government agencies to educate the families on disaster risk reduction, mitigation and planning, as well as importance of keeping the living environments clean and healthy. Please continue to pray for those affected as they continue the recovery process.

Disaster Alert: February 6, 2019

Heavy rain hit the city of Manado and surrounding areas in North Sulawesi Province on February 1, 2019. There is still potential for moderate to heavy rainfall with lightning and flooding. So far, 10 beneficiaries have been reported as affected. Some beneficiary homes were severely damaged or destroyed. Those families will receive support from the local government. Indonesia National Office staff continue to gather details from Child Development Center (CDC) staff about beneficiaries who have been impacted by the heavy rains. The CDCs have provided basic support like rice, other food, and school supplies where needed. Some families are temporarily living in staff homes and with local residents. Some families are beginning to clean their homes after being flooded. Please pray for the affected families as they recover from the damages and losses due to the heavy rains.
