Update #3: September 4, 2019
Rain continues to affect Buenaventura and the surrounding area. Some beneficiaries are still living with their relatives. The staff at the Child Development Centers (CDCs) have assessed each affected home to provide better cost estimates for repairs. The CDCs also continues to support families with food, emotional and spiritual support, and managing local resources for home repairs. Additionally, the Compassion Colombia National Office is working on a disaster relief plan.

Update #2: September 3, 2019
Strong winds now affect the area impacted by heavy rains and flooding causing damage in urban areas. The Child Development Centers (CDCs) are proving food and using Compassion Disaster Relief Funds to assist affected beneficiaries and their families. Twelve beneficiaries and their families are living in the homes of other families, so the CDCs have requested additional resources to repair their homes. The Compassion Colombia National Office has activated a disaster response plan to continue providing funds for the beneficiaries.

Update #1: August 15, 2019
The rainy season continues in Buenaventura. Compassion Colombia National Office staff are working with the Child Development Center (CDC) staff to identify the needs of beneficiaries. The CDC staff are visiting the beneficiary homes and providing counseling. To date, 23 beneficiaries have been affected. Local authorities are helping affected families with shelter, food and basic sanitation.
Please pray for the affected beneficiaries and their families as they recover from the flood damage and loss of belongings.
Disaster Alert: August 12, 2019
Strong rains caused flooding in Buenaventura, which is located in the Pacific region of Colombia. Compassion Colombia National Office staff are working with the Child Development Center staff to assess the impact on beneficiaries. Some beneficiaries and their families are living with relatives or in temporary shelters.
