The rainy season in Colombia is now expected to continue into August. Currently, there is no further damage from flooding. A total of 676 beneficiaries and their families were affected. They were supported, as needed, with food, hygiene kits, water, mats, and home repairs.

Update #2: June 26, 2020

The rains are expected to continue throughout Colombia through July. To date, three Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 562 beneficiaries have been affected. The CDCs continues to support the affected beneficiaries with food, hygiene items, clothes, household items and home repairs, as needed.

Please continue to pray for the church partners, beneficiaries and families, as they deal with the COVID-19 restrictions as well as the damages from the rains.

Update #1: May 28, 2020

Heavy rains and strong winds continue in the northern regions of Colombia – Barranquilla, Ciénaga, Magdalena, and Urabá. So far, two Child Development Centers (CDCs) and 29 beneficiaries have been affected.

The CDCs have been supporting the affected families to meet basic needs like food, as well as spiritual and emotional care. They continue to keep in contact with the families through phone calls, due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

The Colombia National Office has been sending disaster funds for the relief and recovery efforts.

Please continue to pray for the vulnerable families during the rainy season and the pandemic.

Disaster Alert: April 23, 2020

Heavy rains and flooding have affected the southern part of Colombia for over a month, but now the rains and flooding is also affecting the northern area of Colombia. Roads are buried in mud and many homes have been damaged. Currently, impact details are not yet available.

The Child Development Centers are providing food kits to affected families. The churches and the Compassion Colombia National Office staff are mostly assessing impact and keeping in contact with affected families through phone calls, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
